Paul Wang

Viola/Violin Instructor

Paul moved to San Diego after spending the first eleven years of his life in Taiwan, where he began his musical life. His musical education includes Bachelor's and Master's degrees in viola performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music where he studied with Jodi Levitz, active performer and teacher, and Jonathan Vinocour, the current principal violist of the San Francisco Symphony.

 

Paul has played in a number of orchestras such as San Diego Youth Symphony, Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra, San Francisco Conservatory of Music Orchestra. Besides orchestra, Paul enjoys playing chamber music with fellow friends and musicians. Every summer, Paul performs with Youth Philharmonic Orchestra students at the YPO summer festival including orchestra and chamber. Alyze Dreiling the director of YPO has also performed with Paul, as the soloist, playing Brandenburg Concerto for two violas and Mozart Sinfonia Concertante. Paul has performed in a number of venues and toured Europe with the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra at places such as Berlin Philharmonic's Digital Concert Hall, Munich Philharmonic's Concert Hall, San Francisco Symphony's Davies Symphony Hall, and San Diego Symphony's Copley Symphony Hall.

 

In addition to performing music, Paul is very passionate about sharing his musical knowledge and experiences with others. Teaching is the perfect fit between music and helping others. He enjoys working with students in hopes of enriching their musical lives and keeping that passion burning. Paul's philosophy in music is to always seek the highest level of playing in any piece of music he is given, which, comes with practice, patience, and dedication. Paul also believes there are a number of life skills students can obtain through music which Paul hopes to show them. Some of the skills are communication, teamwork, and setting up goals with procedures to reach the goals. Paul's teaching style is desirable for his ability to adopt to different students. He also prides himself in the skill to observe and take action which comes from self-observation and spending number of years in the practice room. When he is not teaching, you can find Paul performing around the community or taking a stroll on the beach.
