Marc Akiyama is a composer, percussionist, and pianist. He is a graduate of New York
University’s Steinhardt Percussion Performance Program under the direction of
virtuoso timpanist, Jonathan Haas. He’s performed in several percussion chamber
groups as well as jazz, marimba, steel drum ensembles, and professional theatre
He has studied writing for concert and musical theatre, as well as
orchestral conducting. Marc attended the Society of Composers & Lyricists’ New York
Mentor Program with accomplished film composer Chris Hajian, and the Palomar Film
Music Workshop with Emmy award winning composer Larry Groupé.
In addition to writing music for film, Marc performs as both pianist and percussionist
for many of San Diego's Professional Theatre Orchestras. Recent shows include
Smokey Joe’s Cafe (Drums), Legally Blonde (Piano & Assistant Music Director), The
Secret Garden (Piano/Percussion & Assistant Music Director), and Buddy: The Buddy
Holly Story (Drummer/Actor). Marc also co-hosts The Song to Screen Podcast which
